Local Lifestyle

To say both permanent and part-time residents enjoy the luxury lifestyle of Kaanapali would be an understatement. Properties are available for purchase within luxury resorts, so you don’t need to be a tourist to enjoy a spa day capped off with a five-star meal. Outdoor entertainment can be found in any direction, either on or off-shore. Kaanapali Golf Courses offer challenging greens with breathtaking views of the Pacific, while the ever-popular Whalers Village is located close by. Just beyond the shops lies Black Rock Beach, the perfect place to catch a Hawaiian sunset.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Whalers Village is the heart of Kaanapali and offers up a plethora of things to do, eat, drink and buy. Traditional Hawaiian cuisine and just-caught seafood are coupled with colorful cocktails, all made with fresh, local ingredients. Walk off your dinner with a trip into one of the many boutiques and end the day watching a hula show.

Monkeypod Kitchen is a long-standing favorite located in Whalers Village and is open seven days a week. Chef Peter Merriman is known as “The Pied Piper of Hawaii Regional Cuisine.” Lobster deviled eggs, pulled pork, poke tacos and macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi are beloved dishes of restaurant patrons. Another popular hotspot is Hula Grill. This beachfront eatery hosts live music while guests dine on flavorful daily fish specials with sunset views. Save room for dessert — their famous Hula Pie is a macadamia nut and fudge ice cream concoction that has often been imitated, yet never duplicated.

The Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa is located on 40 acres less than a mile away from Whalers Village. An upscale establishment known for balconies overlooking the water, it’s home to seven restaurants and bars including a sushi bar, a steakhouse, and a swim-up grotto bar. Kayaking and surfing are available, and luaus are held throughout the week. The Hyatt is located right on the Kaanapali Beachwalk, where guests can walk underneath mature palm trees alongside saltwater waves.

Things To Do

In addition to picture-perfect beaches, top-notch cuisine, and unforgettable sunset views, Kaanapali sits in the foreground of the West Maui Forest Reserve. Trails range from half a mile to 10 miles, with astounding views waiting at the top. Other adventures closer to sea level can be found on the Kaanapali Golf Courses. Two courses are available for tee times between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. In addition to traditional golf, footgolf is offered as a fun twist with the same surreal views.
