Welcome to Launiupoko

Solitude and peace of mind in your own private escape

On a secluded portion of the western side of Maui lies the quiet community of Launiupoko. Launiupoko maintains a low profile without straying too far off the beaten path. Shopping and other errands are only a short drive away. Private estates on larger lots are more common here, and agriculturally zoned homes sit on a minimum of two acres. Some communities require even larger minimum lot sizes. Launiupoko is a peaceful alternative for those yearning to enjoy the beauty and views of the Hawaiian Islands without the crowds of high season hotel guests.

Launiupoko has always been one of the most desired communities on Maui. Supply can be short due to the high demand, and it’s easy to see why. There are only 123 lots within three main subdivisions, many with their own fruit trees and organic gardens. Unparalleled views, 300+ days of sunshine each year, and secluded tranquility are the name of the game here, where solitude and peace of mind are the most valuable splendors.

What to Love

  • Private homes on large lots that span anywhere from 2 to 19 acres
  • Agricultural zoning on most properties, so residents can (and often do) grow their own fruits and vegetables
  • Although secluded, Launiupoko is not far away from busier parts of Maui, like Lahaina (only three miles away)

Local Lifestyle

Many parts of this region remain largely undeveloped. While most coastal areas of Hawaii are bustling and compact with condos, hotels and resorts built very close to one another, Launiupoko stands alone as a more calm and spacious alternative. Those who come to Launiupoko tend to stick around for extended periods of time — less than 10% of homeowners choose to sell each year, on average. New residents arrive looking for a slower pace of life and stay when they realize they have discovered the real-life inspiration behind the phrase “living on island time.”

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

With thousands of open acres in every direction, there are dozens of local farms to visit. One well-loved favorite is the Maui Dragon Fruit Farm. The farm grows 16 varieties of delicious dragon fruit and offers various tasting tours year-round. Walking tours are available, but for those on the more adventurous side should also check out the aquaball and zip line tastings. End the day at their Maui Mountain Cafe and sip on kombucha or homemade dragon fruit lemonade.

Traditional Hawaiian produce can be found at Punakea Palms, which has coconut trees spanning as far as the eye can see. Visitors are taught how to make their own coconut milk from scratch and can take home fresh, handmade coconut souvenirs. Other crops grown on the farm include sugar cane, pineapple, avocado, bananas, and more.

Another favorite is the Lahaina Animal Farm, located on six acres at the slopes of the West Maui Mountains. They are open all year long as both a farm and petting zoo. Morning tours are fun and educational for everyone, and occasional evening parties are held after the sun sets. Some of their most highly anticipated events include wine tastings, fair nights, and stargazing during a new moon.

While Launiupoko is known for its quiet seclusion, the craving for an occasional day or night out can be easily satisfied with a three-mile drive into neighboring Lahaina. Well-known for its popular Front Street district, there are dozens of eateries, shops, and attractions to make memories before returning home to your silent sanctuary.

Things To Do

A favored part of every local’s routine is stopping by the Launiupoko Farmers’ Market, situated across the street from the beach, on Saturdays. It’s an incredible chance to sample a little bit of everything grown across the island at a reasonable price, all while supporting Hawaiian farmers and ranchers.

Making friends with neighbors is easy at Launiupoko Beach Park. An ideal spot for surfing and lounging, this park has a unique natural swimming hole enclosed by a wall of lava rock. Picnic tables and barbecue pits provide glorious views of the outer islands and a picture-perfect backdrop for any get-together.
