Welcome to Kapalua

Make yourself at home in this luxurious, untouched side of Maui

Hidden away within one of Hawaii’s largest nature preserves, the resort destination of Kapalua features sparkling beaches, second-to-none real estate, five-star golf courses, and wildlife sanctuaries. Rugged, lush greenery and endless pineapple fields serve as the backdrop for this small slice of heaven on the northwestern shore of Maui. A luxurious “always on vacation” lifestyle meshes with a storied history and untouched beauty. Award-winning food and wine are plentiful on beaches along the five bays of the shoreline.

Kapalua, which translates to “arms embracing the sea,” was known in the 1800s as Honolua Ranch, and later Honolua Plantation. Today, Kapalua is home to the 23,000-acre master-planned Kapalua Resort, which features PGA golf courses, historic sites, and plenty of retail therapy. Kapalua has hosted the prestigious PGA Tour’s Sentry Tournament of Champions on the first weekend of January since 1999, as well as the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival in June. Altogether, living in Kapalua is the perfect way to experience the more luxurious side of Maui.

Local Lifestyle

Preservation of natural beauty is of utmost importance to both natives and newer residents of Kapalua. Despite the thousands of acres of master-planned resort amenities, a great portion of the area has yet to be developed. Kapalua is surrounded by unspoiled forests, never-ending pineapple groves, and the brightest blue waters on earth. Seaside Hawaii also supplies its own activities such as surfing, snorkeling, and paddle boarding.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Many highly rated restaurants, like Merriman’s, can be found right on the waterfront. Known for the freshest farm-to-table produce found in Maui, chef Peter Merriman has been referred to as “the pied piper of Hawaii regional cuisine” and is committed to supporting local farmers, ranchers, and the economy. Guests enjoy impeccable service and unmatched views while dining on lamb, shrimp, and diver scallops.

Another top choice can be found on the opposite side of the golf course at Sansei Sushi. Overlooking Montage Kapalua Bay, Sensei has solidified their spot as a Maui favorite for over 20 years with colorful plates, award-winning dishes, and multiple locations across the Hawaiian Islands. Another choice on everyone’s list is The Plantation House, perched just above the 19th hole of the Plantation Golf Course. Open seven days a week, The Plantation House serves fresh Hawaiian fare in an elegant setting. Diners come for their brunch and mimosas in the mornings and return in the evenings for mahi mahi and seared ahi tuna.

The Montage Residences inside the Ritz-Carlton Maui give both part-time and full-time denizens a chance to enjoy relaxing resort life without ever having to leave. With fractional ownership available in their two and three bedroom units, luxuriously appointed, spacious condos with unparalleled views are just steps away from lagoon-like pools, golf, and endless spa days.
