12 Reasons Why Puamana in Lahaina is the Best Condo Complex in West Maui

Puamana in Lahaina is one of the very best spots in West Maui, and I'm not just talking about stunning ocean and sunset views. I’m talking about the convenience factor.

Puamana by far takes the cake above all other West Maui locations. A place so convenient that as long you have groceries in your fridge, you don’t even need to leave the neighborhood. If you need groceries, gas, a restaurant, an ABC store, or any other amenity, you’re in close proximity by car, foot, or bike. For any reason you need to drive to the other side of the island, your commute is less than 30 minutes away.
 
It’s not one of those places that has a high rise tower, high density living, or a sprawling Estate up on the hill. Puamana is a beach-lovers community, but with the added convenience factor. In fact, it's smack-dab on top of the beach, which makes this paradise an ideal spot to call home! Built in 1968, it’s for people that love living near the ocean, playing in or near the water, and love the aspects of having the ocean dominate the scenery. Rest assured that your beach cruiser will get as many miles as your vehicle does.

By keeping it simple and factoring in convenience, these are my reasons why Puamana is the greatest place in West Maui to visit, stay, play, and live.
 

1) A Stunning Location on Front Street

The gated beachfront community of Puamana is located on world-renowned Front Street with real beaches and sand. At this luxurious location, you can enjoy private access to your favorite sun and fun in the sand without any worries about intruders disrupting or threatening your relaxation! Front Street offers unique shopping and exceptional dining, which makes it the best West Maui can offer within a 1-2 mile radius. Puamana is in a very secluded location due to the position between the ocean and Honoapiilani Highway, but also is a short walk or bike ride to Front Street and Lahaina town restaurants, shops, and activities.

2) It’s a Location within a Location

In Maui, the West is the best, and Puamana is considered the best in the West. With a superb location being situated at the southern most end of Front Street in Lahaina, you are within a 25-30 minute commute to cross island towns of Kahului, Kihei, or Wailuku.
 
Even the northern west resort towns of Kaanapali and Kapalua are an easy 5-15 minute commute allowing for maximum fun and less driving time while you work, play, or live. I consider Puamana as Central Maui due to its accessibility to other parts of the island not easily found in other West Maui real estate locations.
 

3) There’s an Abundance of Space Everywhere!

There are 30-acres of activity and space for you to enjoy at this property. This is not a vertically inclined neighborhood, but it's big with lots going on in all directions! From the streets lined by monkey pod trees or palm trees to a landscape filled with mango, banana, and avocado trees, you'll feel like you're in paradise. If it’s not the beach you choose, this expansive 30-acre complex provides its residents with so many opportunities. It has 3 pools, tennis courts of all varieties including badminton and bocce ball, a clubhouse, a playground, and an abundance of green spaces.

4) There are Surf Breaks with Your Name on Them

If you want to hear the sound of surf breaks from your window, look no further. Enjoy glassy and fun surf and a gate that keeps the crowds at a minimum. Even though these breaks have specific names, most residents just refer to them as Puamana. 
 
Hot sands, or Beaches as it’s known, have a really exciting right-hand point break that lights up this Lahaina gold coast community in the summertime months. Moderate waist-high to overhead, perfect, glassy waves peel their way to shore in Puamana.
 
The pools in this complex are located directly in front of the oceanfront pool, which is a peaky, A-frame wave that is fast and hollow at times. It gets up to a few feet overhead and breaks directly in front of the clubhouse and ocean pool, allowing residents to get up close and personal to the action.
 
Puamana makes surfing, paddling, kayaking, fishing, or almost any ocean activity very convenient and easy for people who don’t want to load boards up or get in the car and drive somewhere down the road. In Puamana, you can go easily from the couch to the lineup in less than 5 minutes, or from the lineup to the dinner table in less than 10. For this convenience alone this could easily be the #1 reason on this list.
 

5) Security, Safety, and Serenity

Rest assured you are safe in this gated beachfront community with 24-hour security that patrols the grounds at Puamana each day. Situated on private property with a gate and no public roads, speeding cars and pass-through traffic are minimal.
 
 

6) Neighbors Live Side by Side, Not on Top of Each Other

With 60 low-rise buildings and only 4-5 units per building, these units are situated more like residences or townhouses. Due to its low-rise structure, the obnoxious sounds of people running through the halls, stomping from the unit above, or the elevator door opening and closing, are not present in Puamana.

7) The Outdoor Storage is Impeccable

In Puamana, residents don’t have to store a bike in the guest room, or a paddle board in the living room. Residents are welcome to store their stuff on the lanai and under their respective assigned carports (in accordance with House Rules). Puamana's got it right by allowing proper storage to hold surfboards, paddle boards, kayaks, and bikes, to name a few.
 
 
In most condominiums with parents or activity-minded people, toys and ocean activities tend to dominate the landscape of the living space due to a lack of storage. However, at Puamana, most units come with the proper storage to take the clutter out of sight and conveniently stow their items.
 

8) Grills Are Allowed on the Lanai

At Puamana, you can watch the game, the kids, the surf, and the sunset – all while cooking tasty meals from your own private lanai and listening to your own music. No more going out to the common area or clubhouse. Residents are able to cook and eat on the lanai. It’s authentic indoor-outdoor living.
 

9) There’s an Oceanfront Pool that Literally Sits in the Ocean

Since this is the adult pool, unfortunately kids cannot enjoy it until they’re 14 years old. Another unique rule of this oceanfront pool is that they don’t allow cell phones, so don’t plan on making calls to the office. When the surf is pumping, sea mist and actual sea life lands on the pool deck. This pool is very special and unique to Maui, as there is nothing quite like it on the island. When you're relaxing by the pool here at Puamana, you’re truly sitting in the ocean.

10) Parking Actually Near Your Property

Don't worry, there are no valets, reception areas to pass through, or long walks to deal with just to get to your home. Residents are actually able to park close to their unit. Most of the complex's assigned carports and guest areas are within steps of the front door, making loading and unloading quick and convenient.
 

11) Bonus! They Allow Pets

If you’re a pet owner, you understand the struggle it is to find a place that will accept your furry friends. Puamana allows one dog or cat per unit.
 

12) The Units Themselves are Amazing

The units in Puamana are traditional beach bungalow style. With concrete block walls separating each unit, you can completely renovate, or remodel your home all the way from the slab up. Original Puamana condominium units range from 1-3 bedrooms. Each 1 bedroom has 2 bathrooms. 2 baths is unheard of!
 
1 bedroom units range from approximately 650-1,000 square feet. 2 bedroom, 2 bath units are typically 1,000-1,146 square feet, and 3 and 4 bedroom, 2+baths are approximately 1,200-1,500+ square feet. Prices for these units can range from $590,000-$2M+. Short term vacation rentals are permitted at Puamana ranging from $150-$475+/night.
